Where to begin!

Summer is always a good place to start! So to give a little background, in the summer of 2013 I wrecked my knee. November 2013 was the day that it was supposably fixed. After 3 months post surgery I was super excited to start running, but when my knee still wasn’t feeling great and I saw the surgeon again we decided that I needed another surgery cause something still wasn’t right (thanks for that phone call on my birthday!), August 6 would be that wonderful day.

Every spring my friends and I often discuss all the adventures we are going to have, all the places we are going to hike to, all the camping trips we are going to do. But often by the time fall hits many adventures are still left on our lists uncrossed off (this doesn’t mean that past summers haven’t been awesome!). This summer I wanted to get it all in, do as much hiking and as much whatever else that I could as I anticipated another lengthy recovery after my second surgery.

This summer had to be one of the best summer! Many adventures were had, many mountains and trails were explored, and much more! In the end, the second surgery solved my problems with minimal recovery (win-win). So do I regret having it and assuming that things were going to go poorly? Not at all! I know that if I didn’t have a surgery looming in the future I would never have done as much hiking, tried long boarding, spent time fishing, and enjoying every jump, every kick, and every hike. Instead of pushing things off, like I have done every year, I spent every possible moment doing things that I thought I wouldn’t be able to do for a long time.

I am excited for next summer as I have already begun dreaming new mountains to climb, new/old hobbies to get back into. I think there is a lot of truth to the statement “you don’t know what you’ve got till its gone.” Even loosing the ability to be active temporarily has made me miss the things that I did before without thinking twice. During recovery I was so thrilled when I could jump on one leg, or this past month I began running again… slowly- but it is such a wonderful feeling to be able to slowly get back into these things that I haven’t been able to do for so long.

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:11-13

“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14

I Lived- One Republic

Hope when you take that jump
You don’t fear the fall
Hope when the water rises
You build a wallHope when the crowd screams out
They’re screaming your name
Hope if everybody runs
You choose to stay

Hope that you fall in love
And it hurts so bad
The only way you can know
Is give it all you have

And I hope that you don’t suffer
But take the pain
Hope when the moment comes
You’ll say…

I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second
That this world could give
I saw so many places
The things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone
I swear I lived

Hope that you spend your days
But they all add up
And when that sun goes down
Hope you raise your cup

I wish that I could witness
All your joy and all your pain
But until my moment comes
I’ll say…
I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second
That this world could give
I saw so many places
The things that I did
Yeah, with every broken bone
I swear I lived
